The Beginning....

Welcome.

My name is Marvin (Shane to others). I created this fitness blog to hopefully inspire the average person to stop making excuses and start looking to be a better version of themselves. People tend to think they don't have time, or money for fitness. Or maybe they get intimidated by what they see from bodybuilders or personal trainers out there thinking it's way too advanced for them. Or think they need to be a certain type of person for it. Maybe, just maybe, someone like me (working man, husband, papa of 3) could help change your view on what fitness can be.

The name Make It Fit(ness) was actually suggested by a co-worker who understands my mindset towards a healthy lifestyle. It can have several meanings..

1. Make it fit... into your schedule. Ever heard of 15 mins, 3 times a week? Really it's that simple. "something is better than nothing". I'm a busy man too between work, kids, chores, finishing my basement, and everyday life. If you want to workout or go for a walk/run, do it. Something as simple as walking in the evening can do wonders for you energy and mood if that's typically something you don't do. The dishes will still be there, they'll wait 😊

2. Make it fit.. into your diet/lifestyle. I like to go out for beers after work and indulge in late nights sweets and junk food while watching movies. I don't restrict my myself in terms of food but I do balance it with healthy eating. 80/20 rule works for me (80% health 20% not so much).

3. Make it fit... as in, make YOU fit.. I remember carrying my baby daughter up the stairs to read her a bedtime story and when I started reading, I was breathing heavier then I should have been, just from going up the stairs!! Don't let my frame fool you, I was not in shape at all. Fit comes in all different types.

Who am I?

My parents are from the Philippines but came to Canada where they had my older brother and I. We grew up in a small town in northern Ontario until I moved to downtown Toronto to study at Ryerson University. That's where I met my wife, of 10 years, and mother of my 3 beautiful kids, age ranging from 3-9. I spent most of my time working in the hospitality industry before moving to the automotive industry. I currently work shift work, 2 weeks of days and 2 weeks of afternoons/nights.

I exercise between 3-5 days a week. That includes lifting weights, basketball or other sports, going for runs,  and workout videos.

I also enjoy traveling, anything superhero related (we're a huge superhero family), sports, video games, escape rooms, and good company around me. I like to try anything and everything. Oh and food! I love you. Especially the greasy stuff: chicken wings... mmm.. That's why I'll never have a 6 pack. Lol.  Life is short people!!

Well there it is. That's me in a nut shell. This blog is my fitness journal. Hopefully it's like yours as well. Follow along. Tell me about it (I love hearing how people have made changes, big or small). Let's do this. Take that first step. Make it fit into your diet. Make it fit into your schedule. Make it fit into you lifestyle!
