Calories

I've never been one to count calories. I've always ate what I wanted, whenever I wanted, still do for the most part. Last year I started to become more aware of the calories that I was putting into my body. It was actually the first time I committed myself into losing body fat, mainly around my belly #dadbod. And really the concept was simple, less calories equals lass fat, more calories equals my fat. You need to know how many calories you need to maintain your body first. Many apps like MyFitnessPal, or a quick google search will lead to a calorie calculator, such as this one https://www.freedieting.com/calorie-calculator

In recent years, there's been a focus on making people aware of the number of calories they are consuming, hence, menus at restaurants having the number of calories beside each item. They've been doing it in the US for a long time now, but it's been introduced to Canada within the last few years I believe.

If you've ever used the MyFitnessPal app by Under Armor, you know how awesome it is. You are about to track your calories by either searching for the item or scanning the barcode on it. All the information is on there. Just remember that it's easy when you're having meat and potatoes, with a side of veggies, but when your meal isn't that simple, you can either, 1) input the recipe yourself, or 2) you can just guesstimate for the number of calories you're having. I always do the second option. I didn't track my meals everyday, or every meal. I used it as a guideline since I eat mainly the same meals and snack during the week at work.

How many times have you or someone you know said "I eat healthy and exercise during the week, so I can eat whatever I want on the weekend." And then wonder why they are not losing weight/fat. I do it all the time. haha :(

I ran into these two posts. One by @josiahfitness and the other by @mazerfitness on Instagram. (I recommend you follow for fitness tips). It just helps put your calorie count in perspective for the whole week. Ever since I came across these I've been more aware of my weekend diet. I even try to squeeze in a workout when I know I'll be stuffing my face later that day.

In my opinion, calorie tracking everyday/meal isn't necessary but being aware of your calories is. Don't need to complete change what you're doing, just make tweaks to it.Continue your journey to healthy/fit living. Let's get it. Make it fit!
