Time

"How do you make more time?"   I had a co-worker that would always ask me that question. He knows my story, long work hours, three young kids, daily household chores/duties, etc,. and still found time to fit in alone time such as exercising. He would always talk about not having time to exercise saying he needs to make more time.   When people first start off, they see "exercising as a chore."  Nobody wants to do chores, they'll put it off until it's necessary. Remember that time you needed a spoon, you look in the  drawer and there's none there, they're all dirty, so instead of washing one, you use a fork? Come on, we've all done it. haha. In this case, it is easy to put everything on your list before you start a workout. It's like your body tells your mind that it doesn't want the exertion and work you'd be putting on it.   Exercise doesn't need to be hard at the start. I always recommend starting slow, make it f...

When starting out, keep it simple...

As someone who never or rarely works out, how many times have you opened up a fitness magazine and thought "wow, these workouts are too hard" or "these are too advanced."? Did this discourage you from working out? Wow, I just realized this sounded like an infommercial, haha. My bad. I always tell people to start off slow or they will be sore for days afterwards where they won't be able to workout or even worse, could end up hurting themselves. One co-worker that came back from maternity leave told me she wanted to start to go to the gym but she was scared to. I recommended doing home workouts such as push ups, sit ups, and squats. She tried it. A few weeks later she showed up at the gym and said she felt better about coming since she started doing those three exercises. She would do those exercises before showering to come to work. 10-15 mins depending on how she felt that day. She made it fit into her day and she was happy she did. For those who haven...

Really good advice... #ChrisPratt

Here's a video (link below) that I saw a while back when Chris Pratt and his co-stars from Guardians of the Galaxy were doing an interview. A fan ask how many times he hit the gym, my takeaway from his response was, "all you have to do is a few things everyday and remain consistent..." I liked this and here is why. A few things . Typically when someone wants to get in shape they feel like it's all or nothing. They change their diet completely and/or kill themselves at the gym for hours, 7 days a week. That's great if that's something that you can sustain but for most people, they can't. A few things could mean a change in your diet. ie. cutting out certain foods (deep fried food, sugars, unnecessary carbs, etc,.) or adding foods as well , ie. fruits and vegetables. A few thing could also mean in your lifestyle as well. Like adding exercise to your day, ie. taking a walk, hitting the gym, joining a sports team. Cutting out late night snacki...

What's my motivation...

Image
I posted this a while ago on another blog but it still applies...   For those that don't already know, I like to exercise, whether it's lifting weights or playing sports. Yesterday, a friend asked "what keeps you motivated to keep going to the gym? How do you do it?" (may not be the exact quote but it's along those lines). I gave an answer about routine and something else I don't even remember but I started to think about it and didn't like the answer I gave. "I'm motivated because it's my routine", wth. What is that?! haha. So I thought about it more and more. And this is a better explanation. But first a bit of back story.       Growing up in a sports family/environment, I always considered myself fit or in shape. I was a skinny kid that would eat anything and everything whenever I wanted and not even gain a pound. Although athletic, I was never a considered myself to have a muscle. Had abs but that was due to the fact of being real...

The Beginning....

Welcome. My name is Marvin (Shane to others). I created this fitness blog to hopefully inspire the average person to stop making excuses and start looking to be a better version of themselves. People tend to think they don't have time, or money for fitness. Or maybe they get intimidated by what they see from bodybuilders or personal trainers out there thinking it's way too advanced for them. Or think they need to be a certain type of person for it. Maybe, just maybe, someone like me (working man, husband, papa of 3) could help change your view on what fitness can be.  The name Make It Fit(ness) was actually suggested by a co-worker who understands my mindset towards a healthy lifestyle. It can have several meanings.. 1. Make it fit... into your schedule. Ever heard of 15 mins, 3 times a week? Really it's that simple. "something is better than nothing". I'm a busy man too between work, kids, chores, finishing my basement, and everyday life. If you ...
